Pull-Out Testing
Pull-Out Testing is a method used to evaluate the strength and stability of materials or structures, particularly in the field of engineering and construction. It involves applying a force to a specimen or anchor, typically a bolt, screw, or any other type of mechanical connection, in an attempt to pull it out from the material it is embedded in, such as concrete, brick, soil, or rock. The goal of this test is to determine the maximum load that the anchor or fastener can withstand before it detaches or fails, providing valuable data on its load-bearing capacity, and installation quality.
This type of testing is commonly used for the following purposes:
- Material Evaluation: It helps assess the integrity of the material around the anchor, such as concrete or masonry, by measuring how much force the material can resist before failure occurs.
- Design Verification: Engineers use pull-out testing to ensure that the anchoring systems used in construction projects will perform as expected under specific loads.
- Quality Control: Pull-out tests are part of the quality assurance process in construction to confirm that materials and products meet the required standards for strength and durability.
- Failure Analysis: If a system fails during use, pull-out testing can help determine why it failed, whether due to poor material quality, improper installation, or incorrect design.
Pull-Out testing can performed in both laboratory and field settings. Specialist Technical Services (U.K) Limited (T/A: STS-UK) are members of the Construction Fixings Association (CFA). All our testing operatives are approved CFA testers with extensive experience in the field. We have a fleet of testing equipment fully maintained and calibrated, with a wide variety of testing methods ranging up to a load of 3000kN. Testing can be carried out in accordance with BS 8539:2012+A1:2021.
STS-UK undertake a variety of testing services across a number of situations, including but not limited to:
- Lift Beam Load Testing
- Safety Anchor/Eye Bolt Testing
- Anchor Pull-Out Testing
- Balustrade Testing
- Lifting Gantry Testing (Including LOLER)
- Seasonal Decorations and Lighting Fixtures
- General Pull/Push Testing
- Anchor Bolts Testing (Mechanical & Chemical)
- Rebar Pull-Out Testing
- Restraint Ties Testing
- Anchor Point Harness Testing
Overall, pull-out testing provides essential data that helps improve the safety, reliability, and performance of structures by ensuring that the anchors and fasteners are properly chosen; and installed.
